Legion Literary and Poster Contest Awards Ceremony

Over 100 people gathered at Uxbridge Legion Branch 170 on Sunday April 23 to recognize the accomplishments of all the participating students in the Annual Remembrance Poster and Literary Contests. Through the contest, Canadian school children honour Canada's Veterans through creative art and writing, and ultimately perpetuate remembrance.

Veterans, Legion members, invited guests, parents and friends gathered to view the exhibits, celebrate the accomplishments of the award winners and all of those who entered the contest, listen to guest speakers with backgrounds related to remembrance in art and literature, and enjoy a time of fellowship.

It was all our delight to watch as the students pointed out their entries to their family and friends at the exhibit viewing; and if you had a vantage point as I did as the MC, to watch the students proudly make their way forward with huge smiles on their faces to receive their awards.

Each year, thousands of students across the country submit entries for the National Poster and Literary Contest. Thousands. This year…. Uxbridge Secondary School’s Norah Adams’ Senior Essay advanced through each of the levels to make it to the national competition. This is a significant accomplishment!  Her entry finished 1st at Branch, 1st at Zone, 1st at District, 1st at the province and 2nd at the National level

Along with the monetary prizes awarded at each of the levels…. Norah’s submission will also be printed on the Provincial Legion website, in next year's Winners Magazine, and will be displayed on Parliament Hill during Remembrance Week.

Congratulations to all the students who participated and took part in the Action of Remembrance!  Well done!!

We look forward to receiving next year's entries from children, grades 1 – 12. Information for the 2023-2024 contest will be distributed to schools in the fall and will be shared in print and on social media platforms.  Information on the Literary and Poster contests can also be found at
